Preparing for Your Engagement Session

You picked your date, photographer, and most important vendors. It’s happening—you’re doing amazing! Now it’s time to have fun and take engagement photos. I especially love this part of the process. Your engagement session lets us connect, build trust, and practice before the wedding day. You’ll learn how to interact naturally and discover your best angles while enjoying the experience together. Preparing for your engagement session helps wedding portraits flow smoothly and feel effortless.

Be creative and thoughtful—this is your chance to tell your unique love story.

Preparing for your engagement session gives you confidence, making portraits flow smoothly and stress-free.

What to Wear for Your Engagement Session

Think Movement
My shooting style is free and flowy. I move you around often, so wear outfits that feel comfortable and photograph beautifully. Flowy skirts and dresses add movement that looks amazing in photos.

Bring Options
Pack a second outfit or accessories for variety. A quick change can give us two different looks in one session. Stay bold with accessories, but skip busy patterns and graphic tees—they distract from your connection.

Coordinate Colors
Instead of matching exactly, choose complementary colors. Neutrals always win and keep the focus on you two. Pick your outfit first, then coordinate your partner’s for a cohesive look.

Choosing the Best Time for Your Engagement Session

December – March
Plan on mornings around 8–9am or afternoons 4:00–5:00pm. After mid-March, sessions start an hour later.

April – May
Spring sunsets shift quickly. Expect 6:30–7:30pm in April and 7:00–8:00pm in May. Evening light is warm and golden.

June – August
Summer sessions work best at 8:30–9:30am or 7:30–8:30pm. This keeps us in cooler light and temps.

September – November
Fall changes fast! Early September runs 6:45–7:45pm. By mid-October, it’s 6:15–7:15pm. In November, think 5:30–6:30pm.

Pro Tip: The best light always falls one to two hours before sunset. That glow makes your photos unforgettable.

The time of your session will heavily depend on your location. If you don’t have one in mind, here’s a quick guide. Each season brings different light, and preparing for your engagement session around the best glow makes all the difference. There are so many incredible spots in Savannah and beyond. Additional Tips for Preparing for Your Engagement Session

Be on Time
The sun is our best friend, but it disappears fast! Arriving on time means we capture every bit of golden light.

Clean Your Ring
I love close-ups of your ring! A quick clean before your session makes it sparkle beautifully in your photos.

Empty Your Pockets
Keep phones, keys, and wallets out of sight. Smooth lines make your outfits shine without distractions.

Bring Your Pets
